Description

The polar star situational awareness graphic is very useful for quickly ascertaining a visual representation how how a process value relates to its corresponding set point.

Using the simulation objects developed by Chris Wickes (Chris.Wickes@schneider-electric.com), I was able to put together a quick graphical overview of how the SA polar stars look when both in control and out of control. The simulation objects allow (among many other things) a simple ramp simulation of a PV to its corresponding SP.  The configuration of the polar star is very simple and you simply need to configure each PV and each SP (it requires a minimum of 3).

Polar stars are very powerful at being able to quickly visualize how a PV relates to its SP (as to whether it is in control or not).   In the screen images below you will see first how it looks initially from runtime, then a scenario where it is both in and out of control.
