Description

  1. Install Microsoft SQL 2005 Express (MSSE) and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express (MSSMSE). These programs can be found at: Microsoft SQL 2005 Express

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c243a5ae-4bd1-4e3d-94b8-5a0f62bf7796&displaylang=en

  1. Open MSSMSE.
  2. Connect using “Windows Authentication.”

Note: The Server Name is the “Computer Name”\SQLEXPRESS.
  3. Under the Object Explorer, right click on the server name and go to “Properties”
  4. Under the Security Page, change the Server authentication to “SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode.” SQL server will have to be restated for these changes to take effect.
  5. Expand “Computer Name”\SQLEXPRESS > Security > Logins > “sa”. Double click “sa” to open up the Login Properties.
  6. Under Login Properties - General Page, uncheck “Enforce password policy” and change the password to “stellar”.
  7. After these changes have been made, reboot the computer for them to take effect.
  8. Log back in, but first change Authentication to SQL Server Authentication. Enter the Login and Password and then Connect.
  9. Under Intouch, expand Applications and open the Alarm DB Logger Manager and open the settings menu.
  10. Under the Alarm DB Logger Manager, change the Server Name to “Computer Name”\SQLEXPRESS and enter the Password. Test the connection.
  11. The following should popup if the Connection is set properly.
  12. Click on Create to create the Database. The following will pop up:
  13. Click Next to get to the Advanced settings tab. Under “Running logger as”, check the “Windows Services” selection. This will automatically run the database every time Windows is started as a Windows Service. Click Finish.
  14.  The Alarm DB Logger Manager will pop up. Select “Start”.
  15. The database is now configured to run automatically. To verify this, go to Run under the Windows Start menu and type “services.msc”. Scroll down and look for “Wonderware Alarm Logger Service”, the status should be “started” and startup type “automatic”. SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) is by default set to start as a windows service.
  16. Open MSSMSE and expand the Databases tab. Right click on the WWALMDB folder and go to properties.
  17. Double click the “Files” tab. Change the “Initial Size” for both the “File Types” to 1 MB.
  18.  Open the “Autogrowth” tabs. Change the File Growth to 10% and the Maximum File Size to Restricted File Growth and set to 3990 MB. The maximum size for the SQL Server Express is 4 GB. Do not set this value to 4 GB.
  19. Save your configuration and close out of MSSMSE.
  20. Start Wonderware and open the Alarm/Log Viewer. Make sure there are not tags set to log data that will add a line to the database every second. This will occur, for example, if the Watchdog_Out tag is set to Log Events.
  21. Test thoroughly.
