How to switch an InTouch application to "Read Only" by modifying the InTouch.ini file

This article from InSource shows how to modify a Wonderware InTouch application ini file to make the application "Read Only". This will eliminate the need for maintaining a seperate copy of the application for "ReadOnly" machines.

Note: The tech note describes an approach that is useful but not officially supported. Make sure to backup all InTouch applications before following the instructions below.

  1. After deploying the application, navigate to the location from the screenshot below on the client that you wish to run the "ReadOnly" application on.
    Replace "Demo1-AlarmDemo" with the name of your Intouch application:
  2. Locate the InTouch.ini file in the application folder and right click on it and choose edit.
  3. Add the following feature line to the bottom on the Intouch.ini file as in the screenshot below:
    MarkAppReadOnly=1
  4. Save the modified Intouch.ini file to a seperate location:
  5. Right click on the saved Intouch.ini file and choose "Copy".
  6. Paste it into the application directory:
  7. Choose "Replace the file in the destination".
  8. If you have previously launched WindowViewer from the user account you may need to also make the change to the InTouch.ini file at the location below:
    Replace Administrator with the User account in question:
