Beginning with Historian 2020 extended properties can be used to add application-specific metadata to tags. When you search for tags in AVEVA Historian Client Web or AVEVA Insight, you can locate tags based on these property values. Likewise, with SQL queries you can select tags based on these property values without needing to know the tag name. The following extended properties are predefined by the system, and can be added to any analog tags:

• Alias - Used as the tag's preferred label in charts. (Applies to Analog, Discrete and String tags)
• Dimension - Groups analog tags together by related engineering units. (Analog tags only)
• Location - Places the tag within the asset model of AVEVA Insight. (Applies to Analog, Discrete and String tags)

To add and an extended property from the SMC access the properties of a tag

Select the Extended Properties tab and click the Add Extended Property button.

Select one of the available Extended Property types from the Name drop down and enter a descriptive term in the Value field.

When finished select OK.

You should see the Extended Property added to the properties list.

Select Apply or OK.

That’s it.

Optional:  You can validate the changes have been applied if the Track Modifications option has been enabled in the Historian. 

From here the extended property should be available as a search term.  In the example below Historian Client Web was used to validate the extended was available.

NOTE: It may take a couple minutes before an extended property is available to searches.  If you aren’t using Wonderware.online, Location would simply work like another Alias
