In 2015 Wonderware moved to an electronic software delivery system. If you are downloading System Platform or Historian, both of which require Microsoft SQL Server, you see that the downloaded media contains the Express version of SQL Server. This is the free version that anyone can download. While it works for smaller installs or environments, it does not work well for larger installations and has a number of limitations. If this applies to you, you must acquire the Standard Edition of SQL Server.
Here is how:
The Standard edition of SQL server can only be legally distributed on DVD media , and is what is needed for larger installs or in situations where the client is installing on a new server that does not have SQL on it already.
