Dream Reports Generating as N/A

Description

In an instance where you generate a report and the report is void of information or displays N/A this indicates that your user account may lack sufficient permissions to the SQL Database or that you may have been disconnected from the database.

Runtime manager errors: In some cases, the Dream Report Runtime Manager may stop working correctly.

Connection timeout: A common issue occurs with databases like MySQL, which have a default connection timeout. If Dream Report doesn't re-establish the connection, reports will start showing "N/A" after a few hours.

Begin by Restarting the restarting the RTM Reporting System Runtime Manager and then generate a new report to test if it is still showing as N/A.

Insufficient permissions: The account running the Dream Report Runtime Engine may not have the necessary access rights to read data from the connected data source, causing values to appear as "N/A" in reports.

An example of account that would have sufficient rights would be an Administrative account that exist as a Historian Administrator or in the SQL login system. This is specific to Dream Reports with the Historian database as the data source, but the same principles apply to PI, Reports for Operations or Plant Scada data sources.

Solution:

  1. Navigate to the Windows Services console.
  2. Locate the "RTM Reporting System Runtime Manager" service.
  3. Open its properties and navigate to the Log On tab.
  4. Instead of using the default local system account, select "This account" and provide the credentials of a Windows user account with sufficient administrative privileges to the SQL/Historian Server or your preferred data source.
