Description

This article from InSource discusses a potential cause for failing to connect to the license server or license acquisition failures.

  • Author: James Rochester
  • Published: 6/20/2025
  • Applies to: Aveva Enterprise License Manager(Version 3.7.002+)

Details

When attempting to launch a product acquiring it's License through the Enterprise License Manager you are receiving a license acquisition failure message.

When testing the connection to the license server in the configurator it fails and may present the following message or you may observe any of the following symptoms within the configurator when attempting to configure the Primary license server with the “Select license Server” tab within the configurator :

"Server config file is not in proper format"

When viewing the configurator the Server port, Agent port and Legacy server port are not filled in with the correct default ports or any ports.

Server Port:55559
Argent Port:59200
Legacy Server Port:55555

Solution:

Locate another machine also acquiring it's license from the same license server and after confirming a successful test connection in the configurator and successful license acquisition you can copy the Serverconfig.xml file from that working machine to the node experiencing the issue.

Copy the ServerConfig.XML file from a working machine and replace the original file within the directory on the non working node.

(C:\ProgramData\AVEVA\Licensing\ServerConfig.xml)

After this reconfigure the “Select License Server” tab with the Primary license Server's Hostname the product should acquire the license successfully.
