If you attempt to start Aveva Window Viewer or other Aveva product and get a message advising that there was a failure to acquire a license, you should next check Configurator to test the connection to the License Server.

If when testing the connection, you see a warning in yellow highlight advising “License Server not detected on this host,” it may be that there is a problem with resolving the host name. Rather than using the node name/host name for the Primary Server Name, enter “localhost”. If that works, then it is highly likely that something is configured in the OS which is preventing License Manager from resolving the local node address.

You should first check the Proxy Server configuration.

Click the Start button and look for the small gear icon for Settings.

The Windows Settings pane should open. Look for and click the link for Network & Internet (see following screen shot).

Click the link on the left-hand side of the screen for Proxy.

Scroll down to check if “Manual proxy setup” is configured. If you find entries in the pane titled, “Use the proxy server except for addresses that start with the following entries. Use semicolons (;) to separate entries:” you should check the box for “Don’t use the proxy server for local (intranet) addresses”

Retest from Configurator where you should now see, “Communication with License Server on node’\[nodename]’ through port 55555 succeeded.”
