Description

This article from InSource describes Tableau security settings as part of the Wonderware Intelligence product.

Tableau Server security is administered in a hierarchical manner. Permissions may be granted at the server, site, project, workbook, and view levels. Enabling a permission at lower level in the hierarchy will override a higher level permission.

Details

Start by opening the Tableau Server website.

Select Users from the menu and then click on the + Add Users button.

You will be presented with the following dialog with three options. Click on the Active Directory User button to import one or more users from Active Directory.

Enter the user names for Active Directory separated by semicolons. Select a Site role from the drop down list. The various options for the site role are listed above.

Note: A Server Administrator is granted permissions to include all sites. The Site Administrator permissions are limited to one or more sites.

Click on the Add Users or Cancel button to close the dialog.

Permissions for specific projects, workbooks, or views may be edited by selecting Content from the menu.

Click on the right hand corner of a project, workbook, or view to select Permissions from the list.

Click on the + Add a user or group rule link near the bottom of the dialog.

Select the Permissions drop down to assign one of the pre-configured templates or select individual rules found under View, Interact, and/or Edit for a custom configuration.

Permissions may also be granted to workbooks from the Intelligence Analytics desktop application when publishing content. Select Server – Publish Workbook… from the client application.

Sign in to the Tableau Server when prompted.

Click on Add… or Edit… from the Publish Workbook to Tableau Server dialog.

Make the required additions or changes to the configuration. A Role may be selected for one of the permissions templates or the individual radio button(s) may be selected for a custom configuration.

You will see only four options from the Role drop down list.

Click on the OK button to save and close the dialog. The permissions will be passed on to the server when the workbook is published.
