Details:

Description

When attempting to use the AVEVA Historian Client Excel add-in, Microsoft Excel may generate the following run-time error:

Run-time error ‘-2146762748 (800B0004)’ The subject is not trusted for the specified action.

This error may prevent Historian Client Excel add-in or its associated controls from loading or functioning correctly.

Cause

This error can occur when Microsoft Excel Trust Center security settings prevent the Historian Client ActiveX controls or add-in components from loading.

Solution

Update the Microsoft Excel Trust Center configuration using the steps below.

Important: These changes modify Microsoft Excel security settings and may affect ActiveX controls and add-ins other than AVEVA Historian Client. If your organization manages Microsoft Office security settings through Group Policy, Intune, or another endpoint-management solution, consult your IT administrator before making these changes.

Step 1: Update ActiveX Settings:

In Microsoft Excel, navigate to:

File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → ActiveX Settings

Select:

Prompt me before enabling all controls with minimal restrictions

Click OK to save the setting.

Step 2: Update Add-in Settings

Navigate to:

File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Add-ins

Uncheck all available Add-in restriction options

Click OK to save the changes.

Step 3: Restart Microsoft Excel

Close all open Microsoft Excel windows.

Verify that Excel has completely exited, and then reopen Microsoft Excel so the updated Trust Center settings take effect.

Step 4: Verify the Historian Client Add-In

After restarting Excel:

  1. Open a new or existing workbook.
  2. Confirm that the AVEVA Historian Client add-in is available.
  3. Access the Historian Client add-in and perform a simple Historian query or function.
  4. Verify that the error is no longer displayed.

If the Issue Persists

If the error continues after completing the steps above:

  • Check whether the Trust Center options are disabled, greyed out, or revert after restarting Excel. This may indicate that Microsoft Office security settings are being managed by Group Policy, Intune, or another organizational security policy.
  • Restart the workstation and test the Historian Client Excel add-in again.
