[ISS Support Case] Sentinel service undoing windows update
Last updated: March 6th, 2025Description
Sentinel service is undoing windows update KB5036896. They have a workaround to stop and disable the Sentinel service to install the update, but they want to know if it's actually the Sentinel service or something else. This has been escalated to AVEVA and we have provided all information they requested. They opened an investigation on the issue and we are waiting to hear back. IMS 3503381 Latest update from AVEVA as of 9/18/2024: Customer explained the issue and showed one of the nodes: Windows 2019 KB Update Using system platform 2020 System Monitor 1.2 Communication Driver Pack 2023 Hotfix for CDP 2023 R&D explained how System Monitor lock folders while monitoring the system and because those folders are locked during the Windows Update installation, it cause the rollback. The Update workflow was reviewed: Installation of CDP 2023 Applying the Hotfix. No reboot. Applying Windows update. Failure causing rollback of Windows update. This has to be done in about 400 nodes. Workaround followed by the customer is stopping the System Monitor service before applying the Windows Update. Customer wants to live with the workaround but they need a written explanation of why System Monitor is affecting the Window updates.
