Last updated: May 15th, 2026

Description

  • Author: Zach Burns
  • Published: May 15th, 2026

Details:

  • Document Version: 001
  • Applies to Version(s): 2023 R2 SP1 and patches

Description

This tech note outlines the process for adding additional communication drivers to an existing installation of AVEVA System Platform 2023 R2 SP1. This method is also applicable after installing patches up through 2023 R2 SP1 P04. This procedure is useful when the initial installation did not include all required communication drivers or when additional drivers are needed after deployment.

Note: If this process is performed by launching the main System Platform installer and selecting “Modify”, the communication drivers will not be available for selection as shown in the image below.

Prerequisites:

  • Access to the System Platform 2023 R2 SP1 installation media.
  • Administrative privileges on the machine.

Solution Details

Solution Steps:

Step 1: Mount the Installation Media.

  1. Mount or extract the System Platform 2023 R2 SP1 installer package.

Step 2: Open Programs and Features.

  1. Navigate to Control Panel → Programs and Features

Step 3: Modify the Communication Drivers Pack 2023 R2 SP1.

  1. Locate AVEVA Communication Drivers Pack 2023 R2 SP1 (The patch will be included at the end if patches are installed ex. 2023 R2 SP1 P02).
  2.  Right click the entry.
  3. Select Uninstall/Change.

Step 4: Select Modify Option.

  1. In the installer window, choose “modify”.
  2. Click next.

Step 5: Select Additional Drivers and Select “Next” to proceed with the installation.

Step 6: Complete the installation.

  1. Follow the remaining prompts to complete the installation. Once finished, the selected drivers will be added to the existing installation.

Additional Notes:

  • This process does not require a full re-install of System Platform.
  • Existing drivers and configurations remain unchanged.
  • A system reboot is typically not required, but may be recommended depending on the drivers installed.

[ISS Support Case] Siemens 1500 Communication With Firmware 2.9

We are running AVEVA System Platform version 2020R2 and utilizing the AVEVA driver for communicating to Siemens 1500 PLCs. The City installed a new Siemens 1500 PLC with a firmware version 2.9 (the majority of the PLCs are currently running version 2.5). AVEVA could not communicate with this PLC on that firmware version, once we downgraded to a lower firmware version the communications were active again. Is this a known problem with the Siemens 1500 firmware version 2.9? Is there a fix for this on our version of System Platform?
