Details: This Tech Note addresses an issue where users are unable to create a Galaxy in Application Server 2023 R2 SP1 due to a SQL Server connection failure related to a file version mismatch of Microsoft.Identity.Client.dll. 555

Issue

Creating a Galaxy Failed With Following Message: 7

 

Failed to find the galaxy database 'RMN' in SQL Server 'localhost'. Error: Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ConnectionFailureException: Failed to connect to server localhost. 8---> System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'Microsoft.Data.SqlClient.SqlAuthenticationProviderManager' threw an exception. 9---> System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Identity.Client, Version = 4.64.0.0' or one of its dependencies. 10

The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) 11

 

Cause

There is a mismatch with the file version for Microsoft.Identity.Client.dll within the ArchestrA framework folders. 12

 

Resolution

  1. Locate the file Microsoft.Identity.Client.dll in the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\ArchestrA\Framework\Bin. This version is typically v4.56.0.0. 13

2. Locate the file Microsoft.Identity.Client.dll in the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\ArchestrA\Framework\Bin\SMOSupport. This version is typically v4.61.3.0. 14

3. Take a backup of the file located in the first folder (Step 1). 15

4. Replace the file in the first folder with a copy of the file found in the second folder (Step 2). 16

 

Restart the machine to resolve the issue. 17
