Description
This article guides the user through the installation process of Wonderware's System Platform 2012 - Application Server (v3.6) components. In addition, this article includes steps that can be used to test the installation. This guide applies to an installation of a simple ArchestrA Object Server or a Development Environment depending on product selection covered in the Detailed Steps section.

Before you Begin
Determine what type of installation is required for your application:
- Platform for purposes such as an ArchestrA Object Server (AOS)
- Full Development Environment (Galaxy Repository w/ IDE) - Requires MS SQL Installation
- Development Client Workstation (IDE Only)
Prior to making any modifications to your system, create a backup of the PC and all critical information. In the event there is an error during installation this will provide the ability to roll back.

Pre-Requisites
Software:
- Windows Installer 4.5 (Will be installed if not found)
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 (Will be installed if not found)
- SQL Server
- For a full Application Server setup you will want to install SQL Server Standard edition.
- If you are only using the system for InTouch Development and Runtime, SQL Server 2008 Express will be installed automatically.
- Wonderware System Platform 2012 R2 installation software.
(If possible copy this installation to your local hard drive before beginning. This will improve speed of the install, and has been shown to prevent some errors during installation)
Windows Settings:
- Turn off Windows UAC. See "Turning off User Account Control (UAC) in Windows" for instructions.
- Turn off Windows Firewall.
- Log into Windows as an Administrator.
Detailed Steps
- Log into Windows Operating System using a user account with Administrator privleges.
- Ensure that the Windows User Access Control (UAC) of your operating system is OFF. See "Turning off User Account Control (UAC) in Windows".
- Install Microsoft SQL Server is Galaxy Repository will be installed. See SQL Server Article Reference.
- Run the "Setup.exe" file on the installation DVD or folder containing the installation DVD contents:
- A check will be done to ensure prerequisites are met.
Depending on your system and what software is already installed, you may or may not be required to install additional software before beginning the main installation of System Platform. If any prerequisites are missing they will be listed.
If any prerequisites are missing, click the "Install Prerequisites" button to attempt to install the missing software. The install may take a few minutes, and during this time the software may appear as though it has crashed. Please wait for it to finish which may take upwards of 30 minutes. When finished, you may be prompted to reboot.
Once all prerequisite criteria are met, click the "Next" button to continue.
- When the main installation begins a prompt will allow selection of the installation type.
Select "Product Based Selection", and click the "Next" button to continue.

A prompt will allow selection of which products should be installed.
The products listed may not adequately explain which components they relate to. See the table below for the translation between the listed product name and the actual Application Server component name.

Prior to beginning the installation, a summary of your choices will be displayed.
If the displayed options are correct click the "Next" button to continue. If product selections need to be modified, or the Destination Folder must be changed, or put a check mark in the "Customize Installation" option and then click the "Next" button.
- If prompted to select your language, do so and then click Next.
- Review the license agreement. If acceptable click the "I accept the License Agreement" option.
If you do accept the License Agreement click the "Next" button to continue.
- If this is the first Wonderware product installed on the PC, a prompt will request the username and password of a Windows Administrator for the PC.
This account will be used for communicating with Wonderware software running on other PCs, and for running the Wonderware software products locally on the PC with Administrator access.
The user account entered should be the same on all PCs running Wonderware software. If a Windows account does not already exists, select the "Create Local Account" option to have the software create the Windows user account automatically.
To use an existing Domain account uncheck the "Create Local Account" and enter the domain name.
Once the information has been entered, click the "Next" button to continue.
Note: Because this is a Windows user account, the username and password used will need to comply with any security policies that exist on the system.
- Product specific prerequisites will be checked.

- The list of software that will be installed will be displayed. If everything is correct click the "Install" button to continue.
- Once the installation completes click the "Finish" button to end the installation.
- If prompted to reboot, please do so before attempting to run the software.
- This completes the installation of Wonderware Application Server.
- A check will be done to ensure prerequisites are met.

Validation of Solution
The following section will perform a quick functional test. This test only applies to a full installation.

Go to Start >>All Programs >> Wonderware folder and click the "Archestra IDE" item.

The "Connect to Galaxy" dialog is shown. The next step is to create a new galaxy by clicking the "New Galaxy ..." button. The screen will look like the dialog below.
Enter a name for the test galaxy. In the example above, the Galaxy name is "GRValidation".
Once complete the click the "Close" button.

The new Galaxy should now be automatically selected in the "Galaxy name:" field.

Click the "Connect" button to open.
- The ArchestrA IDE environment will show after a few seconds.
