Description

This article from InSource describes the recommended network architecture for a J5 environment. It also lists the recommended system requirements for each platform.

Below is a diagram of a recommended J5 network environment. While not required, it's recommended to stage each of the servers shown below on a separate machine. The production and staging servers can use the same database server. Physical and Virtual machines can be used in a J5 environment.

It is best practice to schedule backups of the Database and Production servers to a secure backup location.

System Requirements

Operating System
The following operating systems are supported by j5:
Windows Server 2012 R2
Windows Server 2012

In addition, the following operating systems are supported for a development instance for use with the j5 IDE:
Windows 10
Windows 8.1

Server Hardware

For a relatively small j5 installation (e.g. 20 concurrent users), the typical set of minimum hardware requirements for the j5
Server would be:

CPU: Intel Xeon 3400-series or equivalent
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Hard Drive: 100GB 5400 rpm
LAN: 100 Mbps

For larger systems it is recommended that the hardware be scaled to suit. For example:
CPU: Intel Xeon 7500-series
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Hard Drive: 500GB 7200 rpm

Database Management System

A connection to one of the following databases (usually on a separate machine) is required:

Microsoft SQL Server (2012, 2014, 2016)
Microsoft Azure SQL Database (V12 - PaaS).
Oracle Database (11g Release 2, 12c Release 1)
PostgreSQL (9.2 - 9.5)

Supported Web Browsers

Internet Explorer 11 (No longer supported by Microsoft, so troubleshooting will be on a "best effort" basis)
Microsoft Edge
Mozilla Firefox
Safari
Chrome
